Newcastle are preparing themselves for a hefty bid from Liverpool for star striker Isak, according to . The Magpies have been keen to agree a new contract with the Sweden international and wanted to make him their highest-paid player ever, but so far no extension has been agreed to his deal which still has three years left to run.

It's reported Isak's agent met with Newcastle manager Eddie Howe at the club's training ground earlier this month, with the Carabao Cup holders keen to agree new terms. However, they have since started targeting Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with an €80 million (£69.3 million) offer rejected by the Bundesliga club, while Liverpool are now mulling over their own £130 million approach for Isak.

It is now thought there has been communication between Liverpool and Newcastle regarding interest from Arne Slot's side, though the Magpies remain insistent no official bid has been received as of yet. Newcastle are keen to keep Isak, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season.
